Got Linux?

So you want to try Linux but you're going to have to download the ISO or order one online. That's because no one has Linux distros on disc waaaay out here in the middle of nowhere. Well, I'm going to fix that little problem.

If you live in the Odessa-Midland area, I'll have a ton of different flavors of Linux on hand to pick up quickly. Now I may not have *all* the Linux flavors (there are hundreds) but I'll have all of the most popular ones.

Most will only cost you a couple of dollars but some will be a little more (DVD and CD sets).

So Many Flavors...mmm

Here are some of the many distributions of Linux. Information on all these can be found at Distro Watch.

If you are new to Linux:

  • Ubuntu - Undoubtedly the most popular distro.
  • Linux Mint - Built on Ubuntu. Very easy, very nice!.
  • PCLinuxOS - Almost looks like Windows.
  • openSUSE - The openSUSE project is a community program sponsored by Novell.
  • Mandriva - Was Mandrake Linux. Has a rich heritage in the Linux community.

A little more "hands on":

  • Fedora - The community distro of RedHat.
  • Debian - Known for strict adherence to the Unix and free software philosophies.
  • CentOS - The clone of RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • SimplyMEPIS - Based on Debian and uses Ubuntu and Debian binaries.
  • Sabayon - Based on Gentoo Linux. Good for gamers.
  • Slackware - Very hands on.
  • Puppy Linux - A small distro.
  • Damn Small - A *really* small distro. About 50 Meg.
